Connecticut Young Musical Artists Competition
Saturday April 17th, 2010 at the First Church of Round Hill
Guidelines
- Applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 18 at the time of the competition.
- Preliminaries will be by application and CD (or cassette tape). No videotapes, please.
- The first 50 applications received by the deadline will be accepted for review. 15 finalists will be chosen for a live audition on April 17th, 2010. Receipt of an application does not guarantee a live audition. Those applicants chosen for a live audition will be notified by mail with their audition time and location. A list of finalists will be posted on the website one week before the competition.
- Finalist auditions and awards ceremony are open to the public.
Prize
- First Prize $1,500
- Second Prize $1,000
- Third Prize $750
Finalists will receive a $100 encouragement grant.
Repertoire Requirements
Voice: 3 contrasting art songs, including at least one in Italian, German or French. Operatic arias other than early works (16th-17th C.) are strongly discouraged.
Instrumental: 3 contrasting works. If possible, please include a single movement from a sonata or suite. Orchestral excerpts are acceptable.
Please keep in mind when choosing repertoire that the auditions are 10 minutes in length. In the interest of time, the judges may choose to stop a piece before completion.
To Apply
The application deadline is March 17, 2010. All applications must include the following:
- Application form
- Sealed recommendation form (to be completed by a music professional)
- Self-addressed, stamped envelope
- CD or cassette tape of 2 contrasting musical selections from the repertoire requirements listed below. Please clearly label the CD/cassette tape with the applicant's name and selections.
Applications received after the deadline, or incomplete applications will not be considered. Application materials cannot be returned.
